It all began in the jungle tucked in the bush of a barrier island.  Surf was up but I couldn't get through my gate because a beehive had settled in the fence!  Setting a new hive, I hoped they would take up residence.  Two weeks later they called it home.  From these beginnings came the flow of mangrove and palm honey.  

 

The wax from the hive became a standard use on my surfboard, and as I was out surfing one day, I noticed that a bee was surfing with me, attracted to the hive scents locked in the wax that I put on my board. 

 

This beautiful honey bee and I surfed all morning - she even rode on the board as we walked together back to our rancho. I've been caring for bee populations ever since and in exchange they provide plentiful goodies, like honey and wax.
